Bantwal, Oct 3: “Reaching out to alcoholic addicts and helping them get back to normal lives by ridding their addiction is a humanitarian task. De-addiction camps should be held all over the state so as to bring about social reform in the society”, said Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade.

Dr Heggade was speaking at a workshop organized for the office-bearers of taluk Jana Jagrati Vedike here on Saturday October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

Swami Nijagunananda of Chennabasaveshwar Jnana Peeta, Bailoor, Belgaum, inaugurated the workshop.

He said that the victims of alcoholism lose their character and lead lives of poor self-esteem. “If the addicts are given an opportunity to come out of their bad habits through de-addiction camps, they can lead normal lives” said the Swamiji.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel released the handbills related to de-addiction camps.

Swami Mohanadas of Sri Dhama, Manila, district Jana Jagruti Vedike former president Vasant Salian, and Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) CEO Dr L H Manjunath were also present on the occasion.

District Jana Jagruti Vedike president Saja Radhakarishna Alva welcomed the gathering. Taluk president Rukmaya Poojary proposed the vote of thanks while Vincent Pais compered the programme.
