Mangalore: Man, Nephew, Killed in Macabre Road Accident

Mangalore, Oct 5: In a road accident that occurred on national highway 17 near NITK Suratkal on Monday October 4, a person named Padmanabha Poojary (60), who was riding on the pillion of an ill-fated motor bike, and his nephew, Tajpal (32), who was riding it, were killed.

The motor bike, which was coming towards the city from Udupi, hit the trailer and then got crushed below it. Both the victims lost their lives on the spot. Tejpal was residing near MRPL Colony in Chelairu village, while Padmanabha Poojary was a resident of Kuppa Poojary Compound near Chelairu Bhajana Mandir. Reportedly, the driver of the trailer in which machinery meant for Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd was being transported, overtook the motor bike recklessly from the left hand side. The motor bike rider, who was confused with this unexpected turn of events, lost control over his vehicle and got crushed under the trailer, it is learnt.

Poojary had retired a month ago after serving in the chemical engineering department of NITK for 35 years. Tejpal also was working in allied mechanics department of NITK on temporary basis. While Poojary is survived by wife and two sons, Tejpal was unmarried.

A case was registered in Suratkal police station in this connection. City mayor, Rajani Dugganna, and various others paid their last respects to the deceased.
