Mangalore, Oct 5: Subrahmanya in Sullia taluk, Kabbinale region near Hebri in Udupi district, and several other places in Karkala taluk received heavy rains on Monday October 4. The downpour was so heavy that water gushed into several hotels, shops and houses in several villages. Sullia, Bantwal and Beltangady received good rains in the evening.
Some residents of Kabbinale, Mattau and Melmutt villages near Hebri claim that they had not witnessed such a heavy rain in the last several decades. The rains were accompanied by thunder and lightning. Due to lightning, a calf owned by Justine D’Souza in Appananadka, Belman, was killed and wiring of the house was damaged. A bridge between Mogra and Malkaje near Subrahmanya collapsed, bringing traffic on this stretch to a halt.
The meteorological department has predicted sporadic rainfall exceeding 65 cms in the next two days in Karnataka coast.
