Beltangady, Oct 4: “The athletes should be provided nutritious food besides sports uniforms by the state administration”, suggested MLA K Vasant Bangera.

MLA Bangera was speaking after distributing sports uniforms to those students who had qualified to take part in the Dakshina Kannada (DK) district level Dasara Sports Meet, in a function held at taluk panchayat auditorium here on Monday October 4. Rajashree S Hegde was present on the dais.

Taluk panchayat and zilla panchayat members, and physical training instructors of various schools were present on the occasion.

Sports uniforms worth Rs 50,000 were distributed to 125 students for the first time by the taluk panchayat.

Block education officer K K Puttaswamy said that the students’ athletic skills should be identified and encouragement imparted when they are in primary schools.

Taluk Physical Teachers’ Association president Joseph welcomed the gathering while Yuvaraj compered the programme.
