Bengaluru, Sept 3: In view of the Covid pandemic situation, the high-level committee on this year’s Dasara celebrations held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday has decided that the celebrations shall simple and traditional this year.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Chief Minister the Dasara celebrations will be inaugurated at the Chamundi Hills in Mysuru and a traditional jumbo savari will be carried out in the Mysuru Palace grounds. There will be the customary lighting of the Mysuru city for 10 days.
The Dasara celebrations shall be held in Mysuru, Chamarajanagar and Srirangapatna, he said announcing that the State Government would release Rs 6 crore for the entire celebrations.
The meeting entrusted the responsibility of choosing an eminent person for inaugurating this year’s Dasara celebrations to the Chief Minister.
The meeting also decided to clear the pending dues of Rs 8.09 crore towards Dasara celebrations of year 2019 and decided that the celebrations shall be held strictly within the sanctioned amount by maintaining strict financial discipline. The officials shall be responsible for controlling the expenses, the Chief Minister said.
Bommai said the State Government will come out plans to encourage tourism activities which had suffered due to the Covid pandemic. Suggestions for preparing a separate tourist circuit to promote the Dasara festival and other related activities will also be considered, he said.
Cooperation Minister and Mysuru district in charge S T Somashekar, Kannada and Culture Minister V Sunil Kumar, Urban Development Minister Byarathi Basavaraj, Chief Secretary P Ravikumar, MPs and legislators participated in the meeting.
Karnataka aims to increase aerospace production to 60%
The Chief Minister, who addressed the American Chamber of Commerce in India’s 29th annual general meeting, said the State Government was keen to increase the aerospace production in the State from the present 40% to 60%.
Bommai said Karnataka was privileged to the associated with the American Chamber and explained that the State had the potential to emerge as a major technological leader in view of the enterprising spirit and industrialisation.
The State had highly trained technical and qualified manpower with several scientific and professional institutions. Karnataka and America have a long history of close cooperation, he added.
