Beltangady: Gold Ornaments Theft - Policemen Arrest Accused

Beltangady, Oct 5: On Monday October 4, the policemen arrested Joy D’Souza (19), a resident of Odrottu House near Sabarabail in Sonandoor village in the taluk. He has been accused of stealing 17 sovereigns of gold ornaments from the house of Richard Pinto from Kakkena near Maddadka, Kuvettu village.

Sunita Pinto, whose husband, Richard, is employed in the Gulf, had filed a complaint with the local policemen, alleging that various gold ornaments, totally weighing 17 sovereigns, had gone missing from her home on Sunday, when she was away to pray at the church. She had said that after visiting the church, she had gone to the house of her elder brother for some time, and that on her return, she found that some of the gold ornaments she had kept in an almirah had gone missing. The thief had gained entry into her home by removing the tiles of the bathroom and then cutting through fibre sheets.

During questioning, the policemen found that the accused, Joy D’Souza, used to visit Sunita’s house often during the last two years, to work. They also got to know that he had returned from church halfway through the prayer on Sunday. On Monday, they went to his home, and during questioning, he allegedly confessed to the crime and returned all the gold ornaments.

Police circle inspector, Sudarshan, sub-inspector, B G Subbapooramutt, and other personnel of the local police station were involved with the investigation.
