Udupi, Oct 9: In all 14,407 girls have benefitted from the district under the Bhagyalaxmi Scheme of state government, said zilla panchayat president Gladys Almeida.

She was speaking after inaugurating free medical check-up camp held for beneficiaries of Bhagyalaxmi Scheme held at the Lions Bhavan, Brahmagiri here on Saturday October 9 under the joint auspices of district women and child welfare department, district health department and Lions and Lioness Club. It has been planned to hold medical check-up camp at all the anganwady centres and all the primary health centres in taluks and districts as per the directions of the state government to hold such camps in all the 30 districts of the state, she said.

Lions Club president S K Chandrashekar, Lioness Club president Nirupama Prasad Shetty also spoke on the occasion.

Social Justice Committee chairman Gerald Fernandes delivered the presidential address. District health officer Dr Ramachandra Bayari delivered the introductory address.

Women and child welfare department deputy director Suman brief on the objectives of the scheme and welcomed the gathering. Taluk child welfare project officer Sadanand Naik compered and proposed the vote of thanks.
