Bengaluru, Sep 23: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday said the vast majority of the backward classes in the country have produced several top-notch leaders and described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the crown among such stalwarts.

Addressing a function organised by the State BJP Backward Classes Morcha to honour the ministers, MPs and Legislators from Karnataka belonging to the backward classes, he said the Congress party used to behave as if it has the monopoly over the backward classes and Modi’s arrival on the national political scene has upset all such social and political calculations.

Bommai said Modi rose not by claiming himself to be a leader of the backward classes but the dint of his hard work and abilities. The service, way of life and the commitment to ensure social justice to all along with the welfare schemes implemented by the Prime Minister have made him an unquestioned and tallest leader of the country, he said pointing out that OBCs have gained prominence because of their strength and abilities in States like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Asking the people belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) to develop the attitude of independent thinking and be vigilant about their rights, the Chief Minister urged the OBCs to follow the precepts of 3 E’s – Education, Employment and Empowerment – in their life to chalk out and work for their own future.

The Chief Minister said BJP provides opportunities for sections of society and ensures social justice. The sections of society which have been denied justice and opportunities will rise in revolt and it is the duty of all those in power to bear this simple truth and work for the emancipation of all sections, especially the downtrodden and backward classes.

State BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa, Urban Development Minister Byarathi Basavaraj, MP P C Mohan, MLA Thippa Reddy and others participated in the function.

Arecanut Growers’ delegation meets CM

A delegation of Karnataka State Arecanut Marketing Cooperation Federation called on the Chief Minister under the leadership Federation President Manjappa Hosabale. Home Minister Araga Jnanendra was present.

The Chief Minister later held a discussion on issues pertaining to the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. Transport Minister B Sriramulu, Labour Minister Shivaram Hebbar, KSRTC Chairman Chandrappa and chairmen of the other two road transport undertakings Rajkumar Patil Telkur, V S Patil, BMTC Chairman Nandish Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary and Finance Department Secretary I S N Prasad, KSRTC Managing Director Shivayogi Kalasad and other officers were present at the meeting.
