Mangalore, Oct 22: Since evening on Thursday October 21, both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts were soaked in heavy rains. Movement of traffic in the city was hit in low-lying areas, due to artificial floods created by the downpour. The people took out their umbrellas, while vehicles were forced to move about with their headlights on. Traffic congestion was particularly grave in Bykampady and Kulur in the city.

After a tree fell across Subrahmanya-Sullia road, movement of vehicles was obstructed for over two hours, till the locals worked to move the tree aside. All the taluks in the two districts received rains of different intensities.

The Kingfisher flight that was supposed to touch down at 6 pm on Thursday landed with a delay of about half an hour, after hovering around for some time. Auspicious functions like marriage that had been slated for Thursday were not hit unduly, as the rains came in the evening. The farmers are the worst hit, as many of them have harvested the paddy crop and left the same in the fields for drying.
