Udupi, Oct 22: The unforeseen rains that has been lashing in intervals since a week has picked momentum on Thursday October 21 evening and continued through Friday October 22.

Although the rains were persistent with a few thunders and lightning, it left a trail of damage across the district. The low-lying areas were flooded with storm water and the harvested paddy crop that has been lying in the fields perished due to continuous rainfall.

The traffic on the NH 17 and city streets faced snarls due to flooding. Several shops and houses located along the streets were inundated.

The Ratha Beedi, Bannanje, Buddar, Matadabettu and other low-lying areas in the city were flooded. The general life was put out of gear by the unforeseen rains at this time of the year.
