Sullia: Karant’s ‘Bettada Jeeva’ on Celluloid – Filming Begins

Sullia, Oct 27: Filming of ‘Bettada Jeeva’ a Kannada movie based on a novel of the same name, written by the late Dr Shivaram Karant, is being undertaken from Wednesday October 27.  Basant Kumar Patil is the producer of the film, while P Sheshadri is directing it.

Sheshadri said that Dr Karant had written this novel, one of the most popular among his works, in 1934-45 during his visit to Subrahmanya area. “The influence of this region encouraged him to write this novel,” he added.

Sheshadri, whose earlier films have won national awards, and who is only the third director to get an opportunity to make a novel of Karant into a film, said that the story of the film revolves around a person who keeps a close relationship with nature and leads an ideal life. He said through this movie, he plans to make an effort to bring before the eyes of the people the lifestyle of the people of the 1930s.

After the initial shot, which is to be filmed near the arch of Lord Subrahmanya temple, the shooting will begin in the premises owned by Koojugodu Ashok, a resident of Subrahmanya. The shooting is expected to be completed in about 25 days. Besides Satyajit, well-known actor, Dattatreya, Rameshwari Varma, Lakshmi Heggade, and Suchendra Prasad and many others are in the star cast. Sheshadri revealed that the music director of the movie is V Monohar. He added that the film will not have any songs, but Dudi, a folklore instrument, and Paddanas will be extensively used.
