Udupi: 7-year-old accident - Court awards two years sentence

Udupi, Oct 30: In a seven-year-old case in which a woman had died in a road accident, the first additional chief additional JMFC court passed a judgement awarding jail sentence and imposing fine on the accused.

Naveen Kumar (28), who was riding the Tavera tourist vehicle, was convicted in the case. On September 5, 2014, Naveen Kumar, was riding his vehicle without wearing his badge, at high speed and recklessness on national highway 66 at the Santhekatte Ashirwad junction. His vehicle had hit Sundari Shedthi who was waiting to cross the road. Sundari, who suffered serious injuries, had died later without responding to treatment.

The then Udupi traffic station police inspector, Srikanth, investigated the case and field charge sheet. Judge of the court, Shyam Prakash, found that the charge has been proved and handed down two years jail term and imposed a fine of Rs 11,100 on the accused. Assistant public prosecutor, Mohini K had argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.
