Bengaluru, Oct 30: The high court (HC) dropped the contempt of court proceedings it had proposed to initiate against a 78 years old person from the city, S V Srinivas Rao, who had written a letter threatening to kill some judges and advocates.

The HC had registered a suo motu case against Rao for writing the said letter. The division bench, which considered the application from Rao seeking an apology and requesting to drop criminal contempt of court proceedings, upheld his request.

Rao, who appeared during the hearing, explained that in a case of property dispute that is pending in courts for the last 13 years, he had not got justice. "As a consequence, I had lost confidence in the courts. As I lost my mental balance, I made remarks which I should not have done. I filed an affidavit on June 23, 2021, pledging not to repeat this mistake. I also face health issues. Therefore, I request you to drop the proceedings," he urged.

The court which considered his request, noted that the accused wrote the letter out of depression and frustration. Now he has also filed an affidavit, seeking apology and promising not to show similar behaviour in future. Therefore it said it has decided to drop criminal proceedings against Rao.
