Puttur, Nov 1: The Uppinangady police have received a complaint from an account holder who said that he had received a message that unless he links his PAN card number to his savings bank account, his account would be blocked. He was told that he can complete this process himself and was guided to a fake website. Once he entered all the details of the account there, the entire balance of Rs 55,620 standing to the credit of his account was withdrawn all of a sudden.
Abdul Rahiman, an auto rickshaw driver residing at Kodange House in Tekkar village, Beltangady taluk, lost his money. He had received a message which was claimed to have been sent by State Bank of India. He was told to link his PAN number to his account to avoid the account from getting blocked. He was offered to use the website link to do this.
Rahiman, who saw that the message was from SBI, filled in the details of the account after which the entire balance in his account vanished. He believed that the money transfer requires OTP and therefore went on entering the details without any apprehension. After seeing that his money has been siphoned off, he has complained to the police.
