Mangaluru, Nov 12: Every year November 14 is observed globally as World Diabetes Day. Diabetes is one of the most common health disorders affecting about 463 million people worldwide. Diabetes contributes to heart disease and stroke. It is one of the high risk co-morbidities for Covid-19 infection. In 2019, diabetes was the direct cause of 1.5 million deaths and 48 percent of all deaths due to diabetes occurred before the age of 70 years. Between 2000 and 2016, there was a 5 percent increase in premature mortality rates (i.e. before the age of 70) from diabetes.
International Diabetes Federation has selected 'Access to Diabetes Care' as the international theme for World Diabetes Day 2021.
