Mangalore: Locals Protest Distortion of Ashwatakatte - Miscreant in Custody

Mangalore, Dec 11: In an incident that came to light in the early hours of the morning on Saturday December 11 at Bikarnakatte here, the stone platform erected around the peepal tree (Ashwatakatte) that is considered holy by the Hindus was distorted by a local person of a particular community.

Saturday being Shasthi, Hindu women of the locality who had been to the spot to circumvent the holy tree found that the steps to the platform were damaged. It has been alleged that one Wahab, who is a local resident and also the president of a local mosque was behind the act. Following this, the local Hindu leaders protested the act.

On information, the police hurried to the spot and took him into custody.

The local people who gathered near the spot alleged that Wahab was involved in such activities earlier too, like placing thorny bushes on the platform. Muslim brethren who gathered at the spot expressed that the case will be settled amicably without harming the unity and brotherhood existent between the communities.

    it is interesting to note that the police has promptly arrested someone on a mere accusation, without even a cursory investigation. The previous day, a piece of pork meat was found outside the mosque in Kumapala, but noarrests were made then, so why this sudden urge for justice now?. Does the police want us to believe that a president of a mosque would have no other work but to go around in the stealth of the night and damage stones?

    I wonder why such incidents always happen when elections are near, and the BJP is in trouble. Now that ZP elections are announced, we suddenly have this problem, not to mention Hindu Samaveshas all over the state. if people still dotn get the message, then we have no hope for the district or the state.

    What is the problem with wahab. this man should be punished if find guilty.thank god the local Muslim brethren with help of hindu brothers settled amicably without harming the unity and brotherhood existent between the communities.
