Mangalore, Dec 14: ‘Alemari’, a collection of short stories in Kannada, authored by Abdul Hamid Pakkaladka, has been chosen by Muslim Writers Association for ‘Muslim Literary Award’ for the year 2009.
This award is being given annually by the association, to encourage Muslim writers to author independent works in Kannada. It comprises of cash component amounting to Rs 5,000, besides a citation.
Pakkaladka, who retired in 2005 as the superintendent in the forest department after 39 years of service, had earlier brought out two collections of short stories, namely ‘Olagode’ and ‘Padadadiya Swarga’. ‘Alemari’ had also won P Lankesh award for the year 2009.
The award will be presented to Abdul Hamid Pakkaladka at a function to be organized at the Madhavakrishna Hall of Hotel Kediyoor in Udupi on Friday December 24 at 6.30 pm, the association authorities stated in a press release.
