Bantwal: Illegal Kerosene Pilferage Racket Busted, Four Arrested

Bantwal, Dec 16: Revenue officials of the taluk, headed by tahsildar, Ravichandra Nayak, raided a spot near a bar in Vogga in Kavalapadoor village in the taluk on Wednesday December 15 night, and took four persons into possession. Two tankers, kerosene, and other equipments were confiscated from the spot.

Owner of the house where the clandestine operation was going on, Manjappa Poojary from Kavalapadoor, tanker driver, Nazir from Uppali in Chikmagalur, Illyas from Vijayapura, and Nitesh from Kumdelu in Pudu village, who works as tanker cleaner, were taken into custody.

The revenue officials had been tipped off about the arrival of tanker to the house of Manjappa Poojary near Rajesh Bar in the village frequently since the last some months. In a surprise raid, the revenue officials succeeded in busting the racket.

Two tankers containing kerosene were found parked at the spot. 105 litres of kerosene had been pilferred from the tankers and stored in three cans by using a pipe. These cans, two tankers, and other equipments, worth about Rs 11 lac, were confiscated by the officials. 

The case has been handed over to the rural police station here. The policemen, who have taken custody of the accused, have started questioning them. Circle inspector, Nanjunde Gowda, is leading the investigation team. Food and civil supplies department officials also coordinated the raid.
