Udupi, Dec 21: A woman was found murdered and jewellery that was worn by her was missing in Heroor village, near here on Monday December 20 morning.

The deceased has been identified as 62-year-old Sunanda A Shetty, who was found murdered in her courtyard when the newspaper vendor arrived on his rounds to deliver the newspaper, who in turn informed about the gruesome murder to her daughter living in the vicinity.

Police sources ascertained that Sunanda might have been murdered at about 10.00 pm on Monday. The main door was found wide open and TV was working. There were steep wounds found on Sunanda’s body, while 30 grams of Mangalasutra, a pair each of earrings and bangles were found missing. The worth of jewellery was estimated to be nearly Rs 50,000.

Sunanda’s husband had passed away six months ago and she was living alone in the house. They had two sons who are settled in Bangalore and a lone daughter was living in a house that is located a few kilometers away from Sunanda’s house.

It was believed that Sunanda might have breathed her last owing to the shock of thieves’ attack, since other valuables in the house were found intact.

Superintendent of police Praveen Madhukar Pawar, deputy superintendent of police Jayant V Shetty, Brahmavar circle inspector G Krishnamurti and sub-inspector Hosakerappa arrived at the crime spot.  Meanwhile, SP Praveen Madhukar Pawar informed that finger print experts and sniffer-dogs have already arrived at the spot to gather clues. A special team will be assigned to investigate the murder and bring the accused into the books.
