Mangalore, Jan 8: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Subodh Yadav, who visited Mulky on Friday January 7, expressed resentment at the apathy of the officials in properly implementing waste disposal programme there.

During his visit to the town panchayat office in Mulky, Yadav got unhappy at the fact that proper information was not provided to him in reply to questions on waste disposal. He directed the officials to give top priority to waste disposal plans and to start works thereon without delay.  Noting that the stay order against dumping of solid waste at a site near Madeline school in the town has been vacated,  he asked the officials to set up waste collection and disposal units at the same site, by using grants from SFC and the town panchayat.

The DC was also angry at the fact that the officials had not taken initiatives to educate the people about waste disposal. He asked assistant executive engineer, Sridhar, to issue notice on this subject to the chief officer of the town panchayat.  About the action plan with an outlay of Rs 27.69 crore that has already been submitted for the disposal of effluents within the town panchayat limits, he said he will take steps in this regard.

During the visit of the DC to the waste disposal site, the school representatives requested him to shift the dumping yard elsewhere, as the school faces problems because of the yard. He told them that no alternative site is available, and that scientific disposal of waste would be undertaken in near future.

Town panchayat president, Asif B M, vice president, Yogish Kotian, chief officer, Harishchandra Salian, deputy tahsildar, Bharati, revenue inspector, Mahabal Rai, environment engineer of city corporation, Manjunath Shetty, and others were present.
