Puttur, Mar 14: The villagers have sought the Prime Minister's help to save the encroachment of a school land where they all studied. They have fought for seven long years to save the land belonging to the school but they have not succeeded in getting justice. The Prime Minister's office, in response, has asked the state chief secretary to take steps in the matter but there are allegations that none of the officials have come forward to save the land belonging to this school.

The school in question is Kenya higher primary school in Balpa gram panchayat, which happens to be the village adopted by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. There is over two acres of land in the name of the school. Out of this land, about 97 cents of land has been encroached by an individual living next to the school. He has also joined hands with the revenue officials, created fake records and has also got 60 centres of school land transferred in his name.
The villagers of Kinya who have been fighting against this process which happened in 2015 and members of the school development and monitoring committee have been making all out efforts to get back the land to the school. The man showed a certain map to the Akrama-Sakrama Samiti and then provided another map to the revenue department to prepare documents in his favour. This came out into the open when details were sought under the Rights to Information Act.
The man who has encroached the school land has also started building a house there. Out of the land, ten cents have been converted. The villagers have complained about the house being built in government land. The gram panchayat officials plan to take up the matter with higher officials. The villagers are thinking about future plans and agitations which can stop this injustice.
