Bantwal, Mar 15: For the last one year, cut throat competition has been witnessed between private buses on Vittal-Salethur-Mudipu-Mangaluru road. It may be recalled that the competition reached ugly levels on March 11 when the driver of one of the competing buses caused his bus to dash against the other to stop that bus from escaping. The driver in doing so, also exposed the lives of the passengers of both the buses to danger.

The transport department officials of Dakshina Kannada district have taken this incident seriously. The transport department has asked the road transport authority to take suitable measures. It is learnt that fines will be imposed on the buses.

Deputy commissioner of transport at Mangaluru, Ramesh Varnekar, said that the two buses from Vittal which were involved with the said incident had obtained their permits from the road transport corporation, Bengaluru. Therefore, he said that permit cancellation is not possible. He said that the owners and drivers involved with the incident of brushing of two buses will be penalised.

"These buses have not been released by the police. After the police produce the documents in the court, after imposing fine, the buses may be released," he clarified.
