Bantwal, Mar 16: “Progress in livelihood and social change are the intentions of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP). Those are being fulfilled through self-help groups,” said Dr D Veerendra Heggade of Dharmasthala.

He was speaking after inaugurating the installation of Vagga zone office bearers and conference on achievements held at Punjalkatte grounds by Dharmasthala rural development project B C Trust, Bantwal taluk in the cooperation of Pragathi Bandhu self-help groups on March 15, 2022.

“The project is functioning uninterrupted for individual progress and 48 thousand members have indulged in it. The Annadana, Vidyadana, Aushadha Dana and Abhayadana help in improvement in the levels of lives,” he said.

He called on women to succeed in life saying that administration improves when citizens become responsible.

Former minister Nagaraja Shetty hoped that the project spreads across the country. Paveen V Nayak, sub controller of cooperative societies said that Dharmasthala self-help groups are functioning in the most transparent manner.

Former minister B Ramanath Rai said that the self-help groups of Dharmasthala project are the inspiration for Anganwadi centre’s Stree Shakti group project. Project chief executive Dr L H Manjunath said that 39 thousand people have died in the state due to Coronavirus and Rs 229 crore insurance payments are made to their families. “The activities of the project are becoming an example,” he said.

Pilathabettu gram panchayat president Harshini Pushpananda conveyed her wishes. Vagga zone outgoing president Sundara Poojary and new president Chidananda Rai Kakya also spoke.

Former district panchayat member Tungappa Bangera chaired the programme. SBI Mangaluru zonal manager Rajesh Gupta, former district panchayat member Padma Shekhar Jain, Vagga zone Janajagruthi Vedike president Ronald D’ Souza, Balakrishna Alva, Madhava Olavoor, Madhava Poojary, Chidananda Rai Kakya, Manikyaraj Jain, Mayilappa Salian and Prakash Karanth were on the dais.

The project’s B C Road trust district director Sathish Shetty welcomed. Bantwal project officer Jayananda P rendered vote of thanks. Dinesh Suvarna Rai compered the programme.
