Bengaluru, Mar 16: The State Government will not yield to the pro-Hijab lobby under any circumstances and it is the duty of all citizens to obey the Karnataka High Court verdict, asserted Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan in Bengaluru on Wednesday, March 15.
Speaking to media persons, he said it is not correct to insist that the High Court should decide in a certain way and all must accept the High Court order.
“In the most democratic countries, wearing religious attire in public places has been banned. Further, it is not the BJP government which brought the rule on wearing uniforms in educational institutions. It is the parties and leaders who are now speaking in favour of Hijab had brought the rule on uniforms,’’ he said.
Dr Narayan said everybody is free to express their views and if necessary approach the Supreme Court. But it is the bounden duty of all to obey the legal verdict. Anybody violating the court order will be dealt with sternly, he said.
He also made it clear that the State Government has been fair and prohibited both the Hijab and Saffron shawl. Even the holy book of Quran has not said anywhere that Hijab must be worn compulsorily. The students should concentrate on their studies and future, he said adding: “Let everybody cooperate in maintaining law and order, peace and harmony.”
