Mangaluru, Mar 17: Several shops and business establishments in Ullal remained shut following the call given by various Muslim organisations as the mark of protest against the High Court's order on Hijab.

As many as only 12 shops were opened at Global Market in Kallapu out of 270 shops. It has resulted in the loss of vegetables and fruits business. As several shops of the central marketed located here, vegetable export to Kerala also came to halt. As there are several Muslim business establishments in Natekal, Deralakatte, Kuthar, Masthikatte, Ullal, Mukacherry, and KC Road were closed. The number of patients attending Deralakate hospital even was less.

The Thokkottu bus stand wore a deserted look. The premises of Ullal Dargha was empty without visitors. The educational institution run by Ullal Dargha remained close.

As many 18 schools run by Ullal Sayed Madani Dargah administration and the one-degree college remained shut. Three PU colleges were open as students of second PU had a preparatory examination.

But only a few students from the community attended the examination. Dargah Committee president Abdul Rashid informed that out of 30 students in Hazarath PU college, 27 students attended the examination. Second PU commerce students had examination on accountancy. The students of Science had mathematics examination. The preparatory examination started on Saturday and it will be held till March 25. Bharath PU college had announced a holiday on February 25 due to the Hijab controversy.

As there was exam the college was opened today. In Commerce, out of 24 students, only 4 students appeared for the examination. Students were allowed to right examination by wearing their Shawl on their head. Out of 19 students, five students did not appear for the examination, informed principal P Kalavathi. Though several students did not attend the college, in most of the colleges, in few colleges students appeared for the exam by wearing Shawl on their head.
