Bengaluru, Mar 23: Leader of the house, Kota Srinivas Poojary, promised to take stern measures against the guilty after conducting a thorough probe into the incident of the demolition of a prayer centre in Kavoor ward within the limits of Mangaluru City Corporation.
K Harish Kumar representing the Congress raised the issue under rule 72 on Tuesday March 22. He drew the attention of the council that hooligans have destroyed a prayer centre built in survey No. 133 of Kavoor village in the 59th ward of Mangaluru city Municipal Corporation. He also stated that the miscreants also desecrated the idol of the god in the hall and took away items found inside.
Harish added that this prayer centre was functional for the last 40 years and none of the departments including police and revenue had razed its building. He pointed out that some third parties have brought down the structure and when questioned, the person who did this, put forth the lame excuse that the plot is needed to build an Anganwadi centre.
In response to the issue, Kota Srinivas Poojary said that the government normally issues prior notice before getting prayer centres or any other buildings demolished and that officials of the concerned department or revenue officials are normally present at the time of demolition. "But the miscreants have brought down the prayer centre in Kavoor ward of Mangaluru and a complaint has been registered in Kavoor police station. A person identified as Latish has been subjected to interrogation. Detailed investigation will be held into the incident and those found guilty will face harsh action," he promised.
