Puttur: Two interstate thieves arrested, gold, valuables worth Rs 6.5 lac seized

Puttur, Mar 25: A team from Puttur rural police station has arrested two interstate thieves suspected to have stolen gold and valuables from houses and temples.

The suspects are identified as Mohammed Ashraf, alias Tari Gudde Ashraf alias Mansoor alias Kalla Ashraf (42) and K Mohammed Salam, both residents of Tarigudde Mane, Chikkamudnoor here.

On interrogation, the suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement in theft in the house of one Ajjanadka Mohammed Ali, Vittal police station limits, Vishnu Murthy temple, Balnadu village, Vishnu Murthy temple, Irde, shop of Kavu Siri agricultural produce, a house in Bhatkal and two houses in Cherkala, Adoor police station limits, Kerala.

Gold jewellery, silver items, laptop, CC camera DVR and a motorcycle used for the thefts have been confiscated from the suspects. The total value of goods seized from them is Rs 6.5 lac.

The suspects were involved in thefts in Kerala and Karnataka in the past. Police cases relating to thefts are pending against them at Uppinangady police station, Sullia police station, Puttur police station, Bellare police station, Bantwal police station, Dharmastala police station, Vittal police station, Malppuram Kondetti police station, Adoor police station and Somavarpet police station. Warrants were issued for their arrest in various police stations in the district.

Puttur rural police station special team staff ASI Murugesh, Shivarama Gowda, Dharnappa Gowda, Verghese, Krishnappa Gowda, Devaraj, Dharmapal, Adram, Pravin Rai Palthady, Jagadish Atraje, Harshit, Girish, Gudadappa Thotad, Vinod, Gayatri, district computer department’s Sampath and Diwaker took part in the operation under the guidance of senior police officials. District SP has announced a reward for the team which cracked the case in a month.
