Bantwal, Mar 30: A cattle trafficker, overtaken by fear at a person who signalled him to stop the vehicle, developed cold feet and sped away after unloading a cow and a calf some distance away. The incident happened at Kadengodlu in Peruvai village near Vittal on Tuesday March 29.

A cow that was black in colour, and a calf the colour of which was brown and white, was being taken towards Manila from Kuddupadavu in a pick-up truck for being slaughtered. A person named Satish, out of suspicion, signalled the vehicle to stop. The driver, who perhaps was fearful that his illegal act might attract punishment, stopped the vehicle some distance away, offloaded the cattle and rushed away.

A case in this connection was registered in Vittal police station.
