Udupi CMC presents Rs 304.78 lac surplus budget

Udupi Mar 30: The City Municipal Council presented a surplus budget of Rs 304.78 lac for 2022-23 fiscal year on Wednesday, March 30. The total expenditure is Rs 15,223.80 lac, while total revenue is 15528.58 lac and the total acceptance is Rs 6496.62 lac.

Sumithra Nayak, president of City Municipali Council, delivering the budget report at Satyamurthy Memorial Meeting Hall here said, "The budget was prepared keeping in view the integrated development of the city. The municipality has utilized Rs 120.14 lac for the development of SC/ST community, Rs 21.75 lac for the welfare of poor people and Rs 22.54 lac for providing other basic infrastructure and incentives for self-employment, development of road and drainage works.

She explained the new projects planned by the municipality for the upcoming years to develop the greenlands in city and encourage conservation of nature.

She further said, "New commercial buildings will come up in many places in city, Malpe and Manipal as part of the Design Build Maintain and Finance (DBMF ) model under the Udupi Urban Digital Infrastructure Project."

Describing the developmental programmes and proposal for the year 2022-23, she said, "CMC has set aside Rs 137.62 lac for the welfare of SC/ST community, Rs 38.97 lac for development of poor and Rs 25.50 for the development of physically challenged."

In all, Rs 81.86 lac has been earmarked for the construction of new parks. Rs 2380.36 lac is reserved for the road repair works, street lights, drainage and so on. Rs 364.22 lac is for the maintenance of small rivulets, retaining wall, and small bridges.

A new commercial building will come up in Santhekatte and Manipal ward at the cost Rs 225 lac. The CMC will take strict measures in waste management and will keep an eye on people who throw waste in public places. CCTVs will be installed to monitor them, she said.

A residential complex will be constructed in Beedingagudde, for the civic workers under Nagarothana project.

A new CMC building will be constructed on 0.96 acres of land near the old taluk office and Rs 1350 lac is earmarked for that propject. PWD will take up the construction work soon, sumithra Nayak added.

Most of the Council members lauded the plan of developing green lands in City limits and setting up water harvesting systems in buildings.

Dr Uday Shetty, CMC commissioner, Lakshmi Manjunath, vice president were present.
