Mangaluru, Mar 31: The city South block Congress workers protested against the BJP-led union government over the rising prices of essential commodities and fuel in the country.

The protest was held in front of the Gandhi statue at Lalbagh here on Thursday, March 31.

Addressing the protest, former corporator Mangaluru City block Congress president Prakash Salian said, "When the country was affected due to pandemic, the prime minister gave a call to beat plates and ring bells to express solidarity but today we are out on streets ringing bells against rising prices essential commodities and fuel."

"The condition of the people in the country is miserable as prices of essential commodities are skyrocketing. The price of cooking gas has been increased to about Rs 1000. Prices for petrol and diesel are rising daily. A common man cannot lead a peaceful life," he lamented.

Slamming the BJP, he said, "But in the entire country, the BJP is involved in dividing the country on communal lines and spoiling the harmony in the society."

Former deputy mayor Mohammed K, corporator Shashidhar and others were present.
