Bantwal, Apr 1: Locals locked and gheraoed the municipal council office here on April 1 protesting and demanding to clear the unauthorized shops that are constructed at Melkar.

The protesters however locked the office and continued their protests after police rushed to the spot and asked the protesters to unlock it.

The assistant commissioner had inspected the spot after complaints from local people urging to vacate the unauthorised shops. The court had also released a notice to vacate them.

The protestors alleged that the municipal council did not start clearing the shops due to their inner agreement. They sat on protest saying that they will not move until the assistant commissioner does not come to the spot.

Roopesh Acharya, Lohith Panolibail, Gururaj Bantwal, Khalid Nandavar, Prasanna Melkar, Sudarshan Melkar, Pradeep Ajjibettu and Suresh Kotian staged protests in the leadership of Buda member Sachin Melkar.
