Mangaluru: Pudar Prathisthana awards presented to 182 meritorious students

Mangaluru, Apr 3: Mangaluru Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha said the development and changes in the Christian community have been evidently and largely due to the sacrifices and philanthropic works undertaken by its brethren.

Speaking after inaugurating the Pudar Prathisthana Awards-2022 function here at the Milagres Hall on Sunday, April 3, Dr Saldanha said people of the community have generously contributed through the church, educational and charitable institutions. He said the donors were truly inspirational while lauding their efforts to ensure that they helped the needy.

Students of the community from Mangaluru and Udupi who had done exceedingly well and scored well or bagged ranks in SSLC, PUC and undergraduate courses for 2020-21 were awarded scholarships under the aegis of Pudar Prathisthana.

The bishop said it is necessary to transcend all the unwanted barriers while making donations and treat the world as one while extending help to all of them in the state irrespective of the region or religion. He regretted that society was falling apart due to growing incidents of hatred and infighting. He impressed upon the students to bear in mind the future of society and be far-sighted in their relationships with all.As many as 182 students from Mangaluru and Udupi were felicitated on the occasion.

Joelin Mendonca was honoured for being named the judicial magistrate after clearing the judges’ exam.

Investment advisor Gerald Colaso and J B Saldanha of Catholic Sabha were the resource persons.

Pudar Prathisthana chairman Gerald D'Costa and Catholic Sabha, Mangaluru chairman S Lobo  and Mary D’Souza of Udupi, MCC Bank chairman Anil F Lobo, Anil E Crasta of Pudar Prathisthana, Nigel Periera, L J Fernandes and Irene Periera were also present. 

Vice-president Walter D’Mello welcomed the gathering.
