Udupi, Feb 14: B R Bhat (78), a resident of Anant Nagar, Manipal, breathed his last due to ill health on Sunday February 13. He is survived by wife, Premaleela Pai, and three sons.

Bhat, a native of Mulky, was the son of Raghavendra Bhat, who set up the famous Mulky Taj Mahal Hotel in the pre-independence era. He worked as the general manager of the prestigious restaurant in Mumbai, ‘Bristol Grill’. He later worked for about two decades as the general manager of Hotel Valley View International in Manipal. He also worked for Manipal Group of Educational Institutions for about a decade. He was an active member of Rotary Club. Bhat had worked as the trustee of Manipal Medical Relief Society, vice-president of Manipal Cooperative Bank, president of Manipal.net Pvt Ltd, etc.

Bhat was a close associate of Dr T M A Pai, and was a philanthropist. He was well-known for simplicity and high principles.
