Udupi, Feb 14:
“Kanaka is Kannaradasa and not Kanakadasa!  How it can be possible for Kanaka to become Dasa when he had begotten worldly richness.  Kanaka is the servant of Lord Krishna.  He is the personification of spirituality”, said Bangalore University lecturer Dr Basavaraj Kalgudi.

Dr Basavaraj was speaking after releasing ‘Kanaka Kavya’ Kannada book on Kanaka poetry during the thirty-third Vadiraja – Kanakadasa Sangeetotsav programme underway in MGM College Muddana Mantap, here on Monday February 14.

The devotees were worshipping Lord Krishna as Kannaradasa, also known as Kanakadasa by a large number of devotees since centuries, analyzed Dr Basavaraj.

The contemporary Indian philosopher Madwacharya propagated universal brotherhood.  Dasa literature has contributed significantly in musical sphere, said Dr Basavaraj.  Dasa literature has essence of Vaishnava sect and great devotion exemplified on Lord Krishna, added Dr Basavaraj.

Manipal Academy director Dr H Shantaram presided over the programme.

MGM College principal Dr P Venkataramana Gowda welcomed the gathering.  Shravani J Navada rendered the prayers.  Muralidar Nempu proposed vote of thanks.  Dr Putti Vasant Kumar compered the programme.

Earlier, a saxophone concert was held by Anjali Shanbagh and group.

The three-day Vadiraja – Kanakadasa Sangeetotsav programme will conclude on Wednesday February 16.  Kanaka – Vadiraja musical concert, dance recital, Dasa Kirtan, both Hindustani and Karnataka classic musical programme will be held in the three-day Sangeetotsav programme that was organized at the aegis of state Kannada and culture department, Kanakadasa Research Centre, Vadiraja -Kanakadasa Sangeetotsav Samiti, MGM College and Manipal Academy of General Education.
