Mangalore, Feb 16: Addressing a press conference here on Monday February 14, president of Mangalore University All College Students Union, Dheeraj K Shetty, said that the university has responded favourably to the memorandum submitted by the union towards setting right lacunae in the semester system, and for setting up of a sub-centre of the university in Udupi district.

“Through a letter, the university registrar has written to the district deputy commissioner, clarifying the stand of the university on the demands. As such, for the time being, we have shelved our agitation plans,” he added.

“The registrar has informed that the students need not personally visit the university office to set right mistakes in the valuation of answer papers or marks cards. They can send their petitions through the principals of the respective colleges. Application formats relating to degree certificates, change in marks etc., have been made available in all the colleges for this purpose,” the university registrar has informed, he revealed.

Relating to the demand of the students to allow a student who has failed in the fifth semester to appear for examination in the sixth semester, the registrar has expressed his inability to accede to this demand, citing university rules. He has clarified that the relevant rules can be changed only by affecting changes in the degree rules with the approval of the university syndicate and the state government.
