Mangalore, Feb 17: The policemen have filed charge sheet against Kamalaksha Purusha and Chandrakala, who allegedly killed a child in Yeyyady Barebail in the city for performing a ritual, which was part of sorcery they practised.

Madhava Purusha, brother of Kamalaksha, who too was arrested on the occasion and treated as the third accused, has not been named in the charge sheet. It may be recalled that a three and half year-old child, Priyanka, had reportedly been killed by the above two accused, about two months back. Chandrakala had later confessed that the child had been offered to Kalabhairava Daiva as sacrifice. The child was killed by pouring hot water, asphyxiation, and piercing scented sticks into her body.

Assistant commissioner of police, Ravindra Gadadi, said that the accused decided to offer the child as sacrifice for seeking the favour of the Daiva in a long-pending property dispute. He added that the policemen are investigating as to whether the couple were involved with more murders. The policemen have suspicions about the disappearance of Chandrakala’s child, and the death of her mother, who was sick. “Chandrakala said she has given her child to a couple from Udupi for adoption. We are checking the veracity of her claim in detail,” he said.
