Udupi, Feb 17: Student Innovation group (SIG), a university student initiative under Manipal University Technology Business Incubator (MUTBI) to provide a conducive environment to encourage, nurture and support new ideas, was inaugurated here recently.

SIG intends to conduct yearlong activities to foster a spirit of innovation among the student body of all constituent colleges of Manipal University.

To start with, an inaugural ceremony clubbed with an open discussion forum was organised recently for all the students of Manipal University, which witnessed the descent of dignitaries such as Dr K Ramnarayan, vice-chancellor MU, Dr Bhaskaran, Sr director, Philips Innovation Group and in-charge for special projects, Manjunath Maiya Sr manager, Philips Healthcare, Dr Kumkum Garg, director, MIT, Dr R S Aithal, joint director, MIT, and Ramesha C, associate director, MIT to the humble setting of the Manipal University innovation centre.

The event commenced at 5 pm with an introduction to SIG and MUTBI Manipal by Dr Manohara Pai, and a few words of encouragement and enlightenment by Dr K Ramnarayan.

The winners of Provenance '10 were then awarded with cheques by the dignitaries. The group discussion which followed after the award distribution was moderated by Dr Bhaskaran.

In all, 45 students from diverse institutions such as MIT, MIC, and KMC participated in the programme.
