Udupi: UPCL - Kaup Congress Derides JDS for ‘Cheap Politics’

Daijiworld Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Feb 18: Kaup block Congress president, Gangadhar Suvarna, has termed efforts being made by the JDS to gain political mileage out of problems relating to Udupi Power Corporation Ltd’s (UPCL) plant at Nandikoor, as ludicrous. “The efforts being made by a few political personalities to gain publicity and political benefits by taking up fight on behalf of the affected people at a time when the works of the plant have come to an end and it has started generating power, are ludicrous. This is nothing but cheap effort to get political mileage,” he alleged.

“I fail to understand the purpose behind the call given for district bandh on March 5 by JDS leader, U R Sabhapaty, after visiting the fly ash site on Wednesday. Rather than calling for a bandh, he could have made genuine efforts to find ways to reduce the ill-affects of fly ash and fight to provide justice to the people affected by saline water. Bandh always heaps untold miseries on the common people,” he noted.

In a press statement, Gangadhar Suvarna said that in the meeting of Congress activists held in Padubidri on February 11, discussions were held about problems created by the above project. He said that a memorandum has already been submitted by a delegation led by Oscar Fernandes and Vasant Salian, and that they have got assurance from the concerned, to find a solution to this problem soon.

What a shame! Right under your nose somebody carries a scheme of power project from place to place and then puts it up at Yellur without any clearance, without panchayat license & without public hearing. One day they forcibly fence the private lands, destroy crops, cut and take away the trees u/s 144 under police cover. They threw the helpless families and their belongings out into pouring rains. Oscar came promised it would not be coal based and he would personally see to it that it would be gas based in which case we would not have had the problem of ash at least.

All these shameless politicians from the 3 front line parties gained maximum at the cost of the lives and livelihoods of the natives. The bribing of politicians and officials went to such an extent that all of the specified terms are now waived. I will be very happy to gift these not-so-male politicians saree, blouse and bangles.

They should come wearing them next time to ask for votes. If illegal projects like Adarsh, Jindal's steel plant and power project, KIOCL etc could be closed why not UPCL? The Governor himself passed strong remarks in the project file that the owners are taking the law into their own hands and they should be stopped. I would like to ask Mr Survarna what did he do to the protect Yellur which is in Kaup constituency?

I know Mr.Sabhapathy since, 1990, he is a crooked politician, when we supported him (Billu Baana) he was entering back door of other parties, that day it self I, we decided he is totally un-fit for politics.
