Hubli: Dramatic Jail Break Attempt Foiled - Prisoners, Police Clash


Feb 18, (Times Now): Police in North Karnataka on Friday (February 18) had to resort to firing tear gas shells after nearly 100 prisoners tried to break out of Hubli jail. The incident took place this morning as a murder accused Durgappa Bijwar was being shifted from Hubli jail to Gulbarga jail.

The incident took place at around 11am.

Bijwar's relatives accompanied by 99 prisoners at the Hubli jail tried to block the police from taking him and pelted stones at police vehicles and gathered in jail compound, tried to set ablaze gas cylinders. They planned to burn police buses.

If the plan had succeeded more than a hundred policemen would have perished. Police used tear gassed the prisoners and controlled the situation. The situation is now said to be under control.
