Udupi, Feb 21: At the ‘Nage Habba (laughter riot)’ programme organized by a publication by pooling together well-known humorists and theatre personalities on the night of Sunday February 20, gave rise to some anxious moments. A number of audiences protested against certain references made to legendary characters and gods by one of the artistes.

When the person in question continued to make hilarious references to the computer mouse, Lord Ganesha, Draupadi, Eshwara etc, the audience thought they were not amusing, and that such references hurt religious sentiments. They took the artiste concerned to task. Even after the humorist tendered apology, the people demanded for the cancellation of the programme.

The artiste again apologized, saying that he does not know too much about religion, and that he respects Hindus. The audience continued to disturb the programme even thereafter. The policemen entered the scene, and the person tendered an apology for the third time.

The programme continued thereafter, under the tight vigil of the policemen. The policemen escorted the artiste in question away, to avert any untoward incidents.
