Mangalore: Police Jeep Hits Bike Riders, Crowd Assaults Cop

Mangalore, Feb 21: A police jeep which dashed into a bike injured two persons Sandeep Fernandes and Royal Crasta on Sunday February 20.

In return Akbar Basha, a driver in the district armed reserve police, and IPS Probationer Abhinav Khare were attacked by the mob.

The riders Joel Crasta and Sandeep were thrown off the two-wheeler and they fell on the ground. They are undergoing treatment at a hospital. A complaint was later lodged at the Barke Police Station.

Sources said that though Akbar Basha rushed to their help, he was attacked by the crowd some among them were drunken, which beat him up and tore off his uniform.

Later a reporter arrived on the spot tried to calm down the crowd, and called the traffic inspector. The crowd began to scatter as more and more policemen arrived on the scene. The police have registered a case against those who attacked the officer on duty.
