Mangalore: Higher Bus Fares Than Prescribed – Minister Seeks Report

Mangalore, Feb 24: In a letter addressed to the deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada district, state science and technology, ecology, environment, fisheries, ports and inland water transport minister, Krishna J Palemar, has said he has noted that bus fares collected from the passengers in some sectors is more than what is permitted. He has asked the DC to investigate the issue and send a report thereof to him.

He also has drawn the attention of the DC to some newspaper reports about the frequent hiking of fares by some private buses, and requested to stop the collection of unauthorized fares from the gullible people.

The minister has also written to the senior divisional controller, reminding him that the proposal to begin Volvo bus services between the city and Karkala via Moodbidri has been pending since long. He has asked Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation to start Volvo bus services between these two destinations at the earliest, and report to him the progress.
