Mangalore: Cooperative Sector Stalwart, Shankar Melanta, Passes Away

Mangalore, Feb 25: Deppuniguttu Yajaman Shankara Melanta (88), an agriculturist by profession, breathed his last on Wednesday February 23, due to ill health. Politically, he was aligned with the BJP.

Melanta had served as the chairman and director of Kavoor Agricultural Service Cooperative Bank for 50 years. He also had functioned as the president of Kavoor gram panchayat for four decades. He had been given the ‘Best Agriculturist’ award in 1988. He had also received several other awards, and was felicitated by various organizations.

Shankar Melanta was actively involved with the renovation of Kavoor Lord Mahalingeshwara temple, construction of Mullakad Ayyappa Bhajana Mandir, providing site to Shantinagara Srirama Bhajana Mandir, and building of Manjilakatte Kordabbu Daivasthana. He had been the founder of Mullakad government model school. He had collected donations for the betterment of Kunjatbail School by organizing Kambala.
