Mangalore, Mar 1: “Health means nothing but enthusiasm and liveliness to engage oneself in one or the other work. A healthy person has a mind that longs to love others. Therefore, to remain healthy, one should seek recourse to spirituality,” advised former vice-chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dr B M Hegde. He was delivering a lecture on health and spirituality at the religious meeting organized on Monday February 28 at Ramashakti Mission, Saktinagar here, on the occasion of the birth centenary of Mathe Ramadevi.

“When we pray to Lord for showering favours on others, He listens to our prayers. Several scientific researches conducted on this issue in foreign countries have proved this aspect. If you do something good, you can be sure of getting returns thereof one day or the other,” Hegde explained.

He said that those who follow the principles of spirituality do not suffer from chronic diseases. “Dying and health are not inter-related. Births and deaths are the results of a person’s deeds in his past life. How you handle yourself, and how you live, is very important, not acquiring degrees, posts or positions. The good things a person does will remain permanently,” he said.

Executive director of ‘Taranga’ Kannada weekly, Sandhya S Pai, advised people to have pure mind and always work with sincerity and diligence. “When the thinking of the people remains positive, a good society gets built, and negative feelings pollute atmosphere in the society. The present system of education teaches one to pool knowledge together, but does not promote inquisitive minds. Education should not get confined to specified boundaries, they should be able to help the children bloom into complete personalities with all the good qualities,” she felt. She also said that the principles preached by Mathe Ramadevi  help people to drive away their worries and have a peaceful mindset.
