Puttur, Mar 3: The renowned ‘Koti Chennaya Kambala,’ being annually organized at the agricultural field of Lord Mahalingeshwara Temple here, will be held under the sponsorship of Muttappa Rai on Sunday March 6. This information was provided by N Chandra Shetty, president, Kambala Samiti, at a press conference held here on Wednesday March 2. This will be the 19th annual Kambala to be organized at this field, he stated.

Advocate, N K Jagannivas Rao, will inaugurate the Kambala on Sunday morning. The meeting being held in the evening will be presided over by Prakash Shetty, managing director, Banjara Group of Hotels. A number of politicians including Krishna Byregowda, social workers and others will be participating. On this occasion, a felicitation programme for honouring Bolwar Mohammed Kunhi, Barkur Shantaram Shetty and F X Gomes will also be held. Cine stars, Umashree, Saikumar, Vinod Alva, and some others will participate. N Muttappa Rai will also participate in the programme. Taluk panchayat president, D Shambhu Bhat, will preside over the felicitation programme, he explained.

The committee expects about 150 pairs of buffalos to take part in the Kambala this year. On this occasion, a programme of bursting of a variety of crackers, which will be a treat to the eyes, is also being organized. The buffalo pairs will compete with each other in six different categories, and the pair of buffalos standing first will get two sovereigns of gold as reward, he added.

Kambala Samiti members, Satish Nayak, Niranaj Rai Mathantabettu, Prasanna Shetty, Dinesh, Jinnappa Poojary, and others were present at the press conference.
