Kasargod, Mar 4: Unknown thieves entered the ancient Mookambika Dhoomavati Daivasthana in Panjadagudde, Mograputtur here on the night of Wednesday March 2, and stole a Panchaloha idol from there. The thieves broke open the lock of the sanctum sanctorum of the Daivasthana and took away the idol of the presiding deity, made from an alloy of five metals. The broken lock and the key used for the purpose, were found to have been abandoned in the Daivasthana.

The theft came to light when the priest of the Daivasthana, Batyappa Poojary, came to open the door on Thursday morning. The information was immediately passed on to the Kasargod policemen.

The Panchaloha idol of the presiding deity of the Daivasthana, which is over a century old, had been installed eight years back, during the renovation of the Daivathana.

The policemen employed sniffer dogs and finger print experts to get clues about the theft. A few months back, a Panchaloha idol and other items had been stolen from Koruvail Goddess Durgaparameshwari temple, a little distance away from this Daivasthana, and the policemen have been unable to track the thieves concerned with that theft so far.
