Bengaluru, Jun 28: The State Government is committed to creating opportunities for making every citizen productive by enabling and facilitating skill training, Higher Education and Skill Development Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Particiapting in the Industry Dialogue on “Skilling Karnataka” organised by Koushalya Karnakata and Deshpande Foundation with leaders of IT/ITeS domains, he said the government gives priority to work in collaboration with the industry. “The government is open-minded to take the way forward by consulting with all the stakeholders. The government wants to play the role of enabler and facilitator for industry without interfering in any way. It aims to train students and citizens in the areas of job, skill, and entrepreneurship,” Dr Narayan explained.

There is surplus employment generation in the state, he urged every company to get registered on the “Skill Connect” portal of the government. “This would enable students to know where they have employment opportunities. Primarily, if the information is made available, later job aspirants would decide whether to avail fee-based training or free training or government training based on their requirements and conditions,’’ he said.

“The National Education Policy (NEP 2020) emphasizes imparting skills to students. The NEP implemented in the state has become an example in the entire country and is being followed by other states. The Learning Management System (LMS) adopted has been qualitative and has enabled transform the way of learning. Apart from this, Digital Literacy, Financial Literacy, and Health and Wellness have been made mandatory. Technology has been well integrated,” the Minister explained.

The gross enrolment ratio (GER) in higher education has increased by over 6% in the past three years. The number of admissions for Polytechnic Colleges has increased from 30,000 to 75,000.

GTTC and ITI have become more attractive. On the whole, be it the white colour or the blue colour sector, the government’s objective is to ensure that there will be no shortage of human resources in the state, he said.
