Puttur, Jul 19: Youths of Bettampady chased and caught two robbers, who had snatched Mangalasutra from the neck of a woman in broad daylight a month ago on the afternoon of July 18.

On June 7 two Bullet bike borne strangers had snatched the kariyamani of a woman of Bettampady Konadka when she was walking on the road. Locals had suspected certain youths behind this act. Though police were also searching for the robbers, they were not successful.

Arlapadavu residents, who noticed two youths travelling on a bike on July 18, alerted the youths of Renja Bettampady. The youths of Bettampady quickly got into action and waylaid the bullet borne robbers at Kesarinagara by using an autorickshaw to prevent them from riding further. However, both the robbers managed to escape and were going towards Puttur.

The youths did not give up the chase. They tied to catch them at Santyar but were not successful. Both robbers had arrived to Puttur through Chellyadka-Gummategadde-Devasya route and tried to return through Santyar. By that time even police were informed.

Rural police station personnel led by SI Udaya Ravi also started tracking the bike borne robbers. As the robbers were returning through Santyar, the Bettampady youths pulled the police barricade at Renja Junction across the road. The bike hit the barricade and fell down.

The robbers left the bike and started running inside the nearby farmlands in a bid to escape. But the local youths chased them and caught the culprits and handed them over to the police.
