Mangaluru, Jul 24: "For the welfare of the beedi workers the union government should form a separate law," said former union minister M Veerappa Moily.

He was speaking after releasing the book 'Beedi Baduku' and a convention of Beedi workers organised by Karnataka Coastal Beedi Workers Union and South Canara -Udupi District Beedi Workers Union at Town Hall.

"Beedi rolling has helped the people of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. People from economically backward classes are dependent on the beedi industry . It has created employment opportunity for lakhs of people," he said.

MLA U T Khader, Vedvyas Kamath and M B Sadashiva, also spoke during the occassion.

Karnataka Karavali Beedi Workers's Union president Mohammed Rafi. H M S state president Suresh Chandra Shetty welcomed.

Yasir Kalladka, Karnataka Karavali Beedi Workers's Union president Mohammed Rafi were felicitated.
