Kundapur: MP Demands Urgent Upgradation of Facilities at Railway Station

Kundapur, Apr 1: Udupi-Chikmagalur MP, D V Sadanand Gowda, expressed his anger at the utter neglect of the local railway station by the ministry of railways. He attributed the overlooking of the railway station as part of a larger conspiracy to give boost to movement of goods train on Konkan railway line.

Speaking to press persons during his visit to the local railway station located at Moodlakatte on Thursday March 31 after discussing issues with the railway officials, Gowda noted that this railway station has not seen any new initiatives to add to its  infrastructure facilities here since it became operational. “Many of the trains do not have a halt here, because of the step motherly treatment by the department. The immediate need is to give a stop to Karwar-Bangalore train here. If this request at least is not met immediately, we will undertake a protest programme by blocking movement of all trains on this route,” he cautioned.

Gowda explained that he had asked the managing director of the railways to begin computerized ticket booking system and underpass for enabling people to cross the tracks without risking their lives at this railway station, and that he has extracted assurance from the official to meet these demands.

On this occasion, Rajesh Kaveri, local municipal councillor and office bearer of Lorry Owners Association, requested the railway officials to provide the ‘RoRo (Roll In Roll Out)’ facility for trucks at this station.

Udupi district BJP president, Udayakumar Shetty, Kundapur constituency BJP president, Kishore Kundapur, local municipal president, K Mohandas Shenoy, councillors, Rajesh Kaveri, Uday Mendon, zilla panchayat member, Prakash Mendon, and several other leaders were present.
